Ozymandias, the latest in Lawrence Miles' Faction Paradox audio series from Magic Bullet, is another triumph. Not the highlight of the series, but another very strong installment.

The return of Finton and Corwyn (from the first two Magic Bullet audios) as the effective leads was a bit disconcerting, but it works - with Justine and Eliza now both possessing godlike powers to a greater or lesser degree, throwing a couple of ordinary humans into the mix helps to ground things.

The story suffers a little for being mostly setup for the following audio (the Faction audios are all effectively two-part stories), but only a little. The lack of major events didn't bother me at all while I was listening, and the forthcoming conclusion (to both this pair of audios and the whole 6-part Sutekh story) deserves the buildup.

I was a little disappointed by the lack of followup to events on the Homeworld in the previous installment; hopefully the finale will address this. It seems to imply that the Mal'akh pretty much wiped out the Great Houses, but there's no certainty, and that doesn't strike me as at all plausible. They're not much more than particularly vicious animals, and while they'd certainly be problematic for the non-combatant types, the House Military shouldn't have any problem annihilating the lot of them in short order. I can't imagine them being able to hurt Lolita, either - unless she ate them, perhaps.

In any case, I'm eagerly awaiting the next audio, and hope it doesn't take long to be released!
